The causes of this disease are, for exemple, humid climate, muddy pasture and dirty and wet bedding. Nutritional deficiences of vitamins and oligo elements cause the weakening of the nail and, consequently, promote the onset of infection. In case of brittles nail the risk of infection increases. But the main causes are the lack of cleanliness and care, excessive intervals shoeing, and incorrect balance and shoeing of the hoof.
